"Parents all speak highly of the pastoral care and of the growth in confidence they have noticed" Good Schools Guide
Students work around tables in lively, stimulating and productive groups. The average class size is 8. Teaching is focussed on the demands of the examinations with regular testing and exam practice.
A sixth form that is a passport to your first choice university
The College’s reputation was first established in the excellence of our Maths and Science teaching and the fact that many of our students achieved their ambitions to become doctors, vets and dentists. The College consistently sends students to top Russell group universities including Oxbridge for subjects such as Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Actuarial Science and Engineering. Our A level English Literature and Film Studies A level results won Good Schools Guide Awards in 2012 and 2013.
An academic sixth form with a flexible and engaging choice of A level subjects and a focus on exam success
RIC is a stepping stone between school and university. Our students are free to choose the A levels that suit them rather than ticking subjects in option blocks. University entrance is increasingly competitive and we liaise with admissions tutors closely, ensuring students choose the right combination of A levels and develop the strongest possible profiles.
An unstuffy, lively sixth form with a talented and inspiring team of highly qualified teachers
There is no uniform, no petty rules, no assembly and students and teachers are on first name terms. Many of our teachers are also experienced A level examiners.
A sixth form where each student has a dedicated personal tutor, providing one to one support and guidance
Personal tutors know their tutees well, meet with them individually and keep parents closely in touch with their progress throughout the academic year. Advice and guidance at every stage through from subject choice to university application are just as important as good exam results in helping our students realise their potential.
A sixth form where half the students are new to the College each year and students join at different points for courses of different lengths.
RIC is one of the largest sixth forms in Kent and so it is easy to join and make new and interesting friends. Students join for two year A level courses, directly into year 13 or for retake courses. We also offer intensive one year A level programmes and the opportunity to combine resitting GCSEs with starting AS level study.
A sixth form with a modern, flexible approach to boarding
Residential students at RIC are from all around the world but we also welcome weekly boarders from elsewhere in Kent and the UK. Our boarding is 15+ only so the atmosphere is a little more like a university halls of residence than a school. We don’t always impose supervised prep and our study bedrooms all have telephones and internet connection. Some have en suite facilities.
A sixth form where The Good Schools Guide say is hard to imagine a better place for an artist to be.
The Visual Arts department is dynamic with an excellent track record of results not only at A level but also at placing students at the top art schools in the UK including UCL’s The Slade School and Central Saint Martins. Students can specialise in the following areas: Fine Art, Graphic Design. Illustration, Photography, Fashion and Textiles, Sculpture and Ceramics.
